At 12:43 on July 1, the Chinese mainland's electricity supply to Macao surpassed one million kilowatts for the first time, reaching 1,037,000 kilowatts, a 4.85% increase from the historical peak load of 989,000 kilowatts in 2023 and setting a new record. Over the 40 years since the power connection between Guangdong province and Macao was established, the cumulative electricity supply from the Chinese mainland to Macao has exceeded 73 billion kilowatt-hours.
Since the beginning of this year, Macao's economy has exhibited a robust recovery, and with rising summer temperatures, there has been a notable increase in electricity demand. To effectively cope with the rising power demand, CSG has been optimizing the power grid structure, conducting cable transformations of the interconnecting lines between core substations in various channels, and enhancing the Chinese mainland's power supply capacity to Macao, as well as its disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the power connection between Guangdong province and Macao. Over 40 years of cooperation and development, the power grid has transformed into a network of three channels, consisting of a total of eight-circuit 220 kV main supply lines and four-circuit 110 kV backup lines. CSG has increased its maximum transmission capacity to Macao to 1.7 million kilowatts, providing a strong energy guarantee for Macao's economic development and deepening cooperation between Guangdong province and Macao, thereby supporting Macao's long-term prosperity and stability. In 2023, the annual electricity supply from the Chinese mainland to Macao reached 5.33 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 9.31%, accounting for 90% of Macao's total electricity consumption.
In recent years, CSG and Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) have been continuously deepening cooperation on Guangdong-Macao power connection by conducting green power certificate trading, establishing the Hengqin digital zero-carbon island shared laboratory, and promoting the development and application of clean energy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, thereby supporting the country's dual carbon goals.
